Sir Peter Blake Regatta

Well done to Hugo for representing the LTYC at the Sir Peter Blake Regatta in November and to Xavier and Sammy for giving it their best shot. Hugo achieved a 2nd place in the Starling development fleet which is an amazing achievement! Read on for a regatta summary…

What’s a regatta without a bit of drama from the weather? The first day greeted us with rain pouring down and barely a whisper of wind—perfect conditions for drying wetsuits indoors but not so much for sailing. Despite the soggy start, spirits stayed high, and the fleet eventually got underway.

Hugo led the charge for LTYC in the Development Starling fleet, racking up three first-place finishes out of seven races and clinching a brilliant second overall against 11 competitors. Xavier and Sammy also proudly flew the LTYC flag, with Xavier placing 16th out of 32 in his fleet and Sammy was recognised for his perseverance with a cool t-shirt.

The real star of the weekend? None other than Steinlager 2, the iconic maxi yacht, which cruised majestically past as we all waited under the AP flag for the wind to make up its mind. A sight like that is enough to lift even the soggiest spirits!

When the breeze did arrive, it wasn’t quite as lively as we’d hoped, but the camaraderie and determination of our sailors made up for it. Rain or shine, LTYC sailors know how to make waves—on and off the water!
