Motuoapa Race Recap: A Great Weekend of Sailing and Socializing

The recent Motuoapa Race weekend was a fantastic event for our Lake Taupo Yacht Club sailors, combining exciting races with plenty of social opportunities. With four of our club's trailer yachts – No Remorse, Eboat, Magic Formula, and Fidgety Feet – joining the competition, it was a weekend filled with excitement on the water and fun onshore.

Sunday’s Racing: LTYC A Competitive Edge

The Sunday race pitted our boats against competitors from the Motuoapa Club, with two divisions. Each division featured four boats from the Motuoapa fleet alongside four from our own Lake Taupo Yacht Club.

In Division One, No Remorse sailed to a well-earned victory, while Magic Formula also had a strong showing, finishing in third place. In Division Two, Eboat took top honors with a win, while Fidgety Feet raced impressively to take second.

A Unique Opportunity: Sailing Around the Island

One of the highlights of the weekend for our sailors was the opportunity to sail around an island. With the gennaker up and the wind at their backs, our crews enjoyed exhilarating speeds, reaching up to 12.5 knots! It was an unforgettable experience and one that certainly tested the skill and teamwork of everyone involved.

Social Catch-ups: The Fun Off the Water

Beyond the racing, the weekend provided ample time for social catch-ups and camaraderie among club members. Evenings were filled with relaxed conversations and shared stories from the day’s races, strengthening the bonds of our sailing community.

Looking Ahead: More Representation Next Year

While our sailors had a great time competing, there’s always room for more representation from our club in future events. Next year, we encourage more of our members to get involved and represent Lake Taupo Yacht Club on the water. The experience is rewarding, and the more boats we have, the more fun and competitive the event becomes!
