Ohope Regatta 2024

A keen group of Lake Taupo sailors made waves (very small, light wind waves) at the 2024 King’s Birthday Regatta in Ohope. Despite the typical winter wait for wind, the weekend was a smashing success, with 42 boats competing across multiple fleets, including a strong showing from our own junior sailors. LTYC members made up nearly half the entries, and the club was well-represented in every class.

Saturday saw three races squeezed in under brilliant skies, while Sunday kept everyone on their toes with shifting winds and a challenging tide. Despite the light winds, a full 5 race series was completed. Our Opti sailors showed their skills, with Christopher Hancock clinching the win. Sally Clark managed a podium finish in 3rd place in the Starling fleet.

The regatta was more than just great racing, though—the Saturday night dinner was a highlight, fully booked and buzzing with happy sailors. A huge thank you to the Ohope Yacht Club organizers and volunteers who made the event a memorable one.
